Friday the 13th Just Got a Huge Update. Perhaps.

A new company just announced that it has come on board and is ready to take over Jason Voorhees And The Friday the 13th franchise into the future. What exactly that means, however, is not entirely clear.

IGN broke the news that a company called Horror Inc. is launching a new initiative called “Jason Universe” that will create “new.” Friday the 13th Activations [spanning] a wide range of platforms from entertainment, gaming, immersive experiences, merchandise and more to be announced throughout 2024.” Its official website states: “Welcome to a new era from the original owners of the.” Friday the 13th Franchise.”

The announcement comes on Heels of the latest news from Bryan Fuller Leaving the Peacock streaming series Crystal Lake. This series, if so, seems to fall under that umbrella, as Robert Barsamian, the president of Horror, Inc., is one of its producers. He also produced the popular 2017 video game.

“For decades, Jason shocked and delighted audiences who kept coming back for more,” Barsamian said in a statement to IGN. “We are excited to be working with Victor Miller and Marc Toberoff on new projects that we will announce in the coming months.” Miller is the author of the original Friday the 13th who regained the rights to this film in 2021. He is not part of Horror Inc. Toberoff is his attorney.

“We are focused on honoring the legacy while enhancing the fan experience and engaging today’s horror audience as we develop new ways to see, interact and engage with the Jason universe,” added Robbie Barsamian, Vice President of Horror, Inc., added.

So what does it all mean? So, Fucking disgusting speculates, and we agree, that it sounds like Jason Universe is doing all sorts of Jason stuff that isn’t movies. Whether it’s TV shows, video games, VR, horror activations or viral videos, who knows. What we do know is that if you want to move merchandise, video games, horror activations and more, the best marketing for a horror icon like Jason is an iconic horror film. So since it looks like Horror Inc. isn’t in the movie business, we’re not quite as excited about all this as we could be. Definitely excited, but just a few degrees less.

“With the unique ability to remain at the forefront of pop culture for 44 years, Jason continues to top the charts as one of the scariest villains of all time with strong global recognition across multiple generations, thanks to billions of TikTok views and millions upon millions of “We can’t wait to bring new Jason Universe activations to these amazing fans,” said Sheri Conn, Global GM of Horror, Inc..

Along with the news there was the launch of one Jason Universe website with a sign-up for updates as well as a range of social media channels. We suspect that these announcements will be made there in the next few months.
