Emilia Romagna GP: Oscar Piastri Fastest After Sergio Perez and Fernando Alonso Crashed in Last Training

Oscar Piastri led McLaren teammate Lando Norris in a chaotic final practice session at the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix that saw two red flags.

Piastri was the only driver at the front to set a fully representative lap at the end of the session after Sergio Perez crashed at the variant chicane with five minutes left.

Fernando Alonso also hit the wall at the start of the session, which was largely led by Ferrari driver Carlos Sainz until Piastri and Norris jumped to the top of the timesheets at the end.

Sainz finished third after beating the time in the opening runs of final practice ahead of teammate Charles Leclerc, who was fastest in both practice sessions on Friday.

Only 0.020 seconds separated the Ferrari drivers and it is not clear whether they would have been faster than Piastri if they had completed their final runs on the soft tires

Chaos reigned at the end of FP3 as drivers attempted to complete one last hot lap.

George Russell was fifth for Mercedes, but the Silver Arrows seemed to be struggling with the bumps.

Red Bull made significant changes to its car overnight and did not drive representative laps on the soft tires due to Perez’s accident.

Max Verstappen finished sixth on the medium tires, but the car looked much better compared to Friday.

Seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton struggled in final practice and finished 17th.
