Dwayne Johnson Injures His Elbow While Filming “The Smashing Machine”

Dwayne Johnson is struggling with an injury. On Tuesday, the 52-year-old actor announced on Instagram that he was injured while filming his upcoming movie. The Smashing Machine.

“Every time your film is called The Smashing Machineyou’re going to get smashed somehow,” Johnson joked in the video before showing off his injury – a huge bump on his elbow.

“Look at that thing,” he marveled. “It looks like I have a melon at the bottom of my elbow.”

Johnson admitted that he “got pretty badly beaten up during our scenes today” and even speculated that it could be “soft tissue injuries,” but he wouldn’t be able to determine that until the fluid in his elbow had receded.

“But it’s all good. It is what it is until it isn’t,” he said, before quoting his late father Rocky Johnson, who died in 2020. “I remember my old man always saying, ‘God rest his soul’ … ‘A day without pain is like a day without sunshine, boy!'”

Johnson acknowledged he has been “in trouble” before, but asked his followers for advice on “some great anti-inflammatories.” While he waits for medical advice, Johnson has found his own solution – a shot of tequila.

“Despite all the modern medicine out there, it already feels better,” he joked as he sipped his drink.

In the caption of his post, Johnson added, “Functional medicine, holistic medicine, modern medicine – I’m all for it when we’re hurting. But don’t underestimate the power of ‘healing teremana flame.’ Sunshine and pain. I’m crushing it, soulman.”

Johnson plays MMA and UFC legend Mark Kerr in A24’s The Smashing Machine. Last month The first picture of Johnson in his role has been releasedwhich shows the actor wearing grappling gloves and a knee brace while sitting in the corner of the ring. In the photo, Johnson is virtually unrecognizable from the neck up, sporting Kerr’s trademark black mane and long sideburns.

Johnson stars in the film, which is based on the documentary of the same name. Emily Blunt Co-stars in the film, which is written and directed by Benny Safdie. Johnson and Dany Garcia’s Seven Bucks Productions (which acquired the rights in 2019) will produce along with Safdie’s Out for the Count banner, Eli Bush and David Koplan.

According to A24, The Smashing Machine “is a drama based on the story of Mark Kerr, the legendary MMA fighter from the UFC era when everything was at the peak of his career. He struggles with addiction, victories, love and friendship in the year 2000.”

Blunt is set to play Kerr’s wife Dawn Staples, who “struggles to find her place in Mark’s chaotic and contradictory world.”

The Smashing Machine is due to be released next year.
