Duke Nicholson, William H. Macy, Tiffany Haddish, Stephen Dorff, Jake Weary and Julia Fox Gear Up for ‘Narcos’ Co-Creator’s Action Thriller ‘The Deputy’ – Cannes Market

EXCLUSIVE: Duke Nicholson (Us), William H. Macy (Fargo), Tiffany Haddish (Girls trip), Stephen Dorff (blade), Jake Weary (Oh, Canada) and Julia Fox (Unpolished gemstones) are set to play the lead role in the action thriller The deputywhich Highland Film Group is launching for the Cannes market.

The film was directed and written by Matt Sukkar in his feature film debut Narcos Co-creator and co-author Carlo Bernard based on the novel of the same name by Victor Gischler.

The official synopsis reads: “Part-time Deputy Toby Sawyer (Duke Nicholson) is shaken awake by Chief Krueger (William H. Macy) and assigned to guard a body until the coroner arrives. When the body mysteriously disappears, Toby launches a frantic search and unwittingly uncovers decades of wrongdoing… and several police officers who have turned a blind eye, including Deputy Billy Banks (Stephen Dorff), who pressures Toby to ignore his findings. Only Deputy Amanda Jackson (Tiffany Haddish) seems trustworthy. To keep his job, Toby must uncover the city’s deep web of corruption before he and his career end up as dead as the missing body.”

The picture is produced by David Lipper and Robert A. Daly Jr. under their Latigo Films banner (Freud’s last session), Mark Canton (300) and Dorothy Canton (Arthur the King) from Canton Entertainment and Ryan Winterstern from Applewood Studios (Land of evil).

They join Hicham Benkirane, who created and developed the project and is producing through his HBK FC banner (Interstate), alongside Brendan Thomas (The cat and the moon) and Sukkar. The film’s executive producers are Victor Gischler, Carlo Bernard, Tiffany Haddish, William H. Macy, Daisy Burnham and Highland Film Group.

Highland Film Group co-finances and manages worldwide rights. Production is scheduled to begin in September in the “American South.”
