Brexit campaigner Nigel Farage and fashion icon Anna Wintour will be in London this week at competing fundraisers for Donald Trump and Joe Biden as the battle for the US presidency crosses the Atlantic.

Donald Trump Jr. and his fiancée and former Fox News host Kimberly Guilfoyle will attend a Republican event on Wednesday organized by Holly Valance, the former Australian soap actress and now right-wing political activist, along with her husband, British property magnate Nick Candy.

Trump Jr., the son of the former US president, plans to solicit campaign donations from wealthy right-wing Americans in London as the Trump team seeks to fill a major funding gap left by Biden in the 2024 presidential election campaign.

“Following my father’s wrongful conviction, we have seen an explosion of financial support from American citizens around the world who oppose Joe Biden’s attempt to interfere in the presidential election through the courts. I look forward to seeing my friends in London, all ready to make America great again in November,” he said in a statement.

Tickets for the event cost up to $100,000. Invited guests include Reform Party leader Farage and Lord Matthew Elliott, the former executive director of Brexit campaign group Vote Leave. Former Prime Minister Liz Truss was also invited, but a spokesman said she would not attend.

Duke Buchan, Trump’s ambassador to Spain and finance chairman of the Republican National Committee, helped organize the event, which is Trump’s first fundraiser outside the U.S. this election cycle.

The incident highlights the close ties between right-wing conservatives on both sides of the Atlantic. Farage in particular plays a key role in networking politicians, lobbyists and donors.

When asked if he would attend the event, the Brexit advocate said it would be “very strange if I wasn’t there”.

Buchan described the fundraiser as “unprecedented” and cited the “special relationship” between the US and Britain as the reason why the Trump campaign chose London.

Only U.S. citizens can donate to the campaign. Co-organizers include former U.S. ambassadors to Portugal, Germany, Switzerland and Britain – George Glass, Ric Grenell, Ed McMullen and Woody Johnson – as well as Cantor Fitzgerald chairman Howard Lutnick and food producer Ken LaGrande, according to an invitation seen by the Financial Times.

Co-moderator is Scott Bessent, a US investor who is considered a potential candidate for the post of Treasury Secretary in a Trump administration.

According to two people close to the organizers, $2 million has already been raised through ticket sales and donations, and more is expected to be raised on the night. “This is the highest amount ever raised in a British fundraiser for Trump,” they said.

Valance has proven herself to be a well-connected right-wing political activist over the past year and has several friends in the Trump campaign. She and her husband attended a dinner with Donald Trump and Farage at Mar-a-Lago in Florida in April 2022.

“It’s Holly’s party – her show. She’s very keen to give her support to the family. Holly can help them anywhere in the world,” the person said.

In an interview with GB News earlier this year, she praised Trump and called environmental activist Greta Thunberg a “demonic little gremlin high priestess of climate change.”

Valance is also campaigning for Farage and his Reform Party, which is seeking election as a member of parliament in Britain’s general election on July 4, a person familiar with the matter said.

Elliott, who was given a knighthood in Truss’s resignation honours list, did not deny he would be attending the event. He is married to Sarah Elliott, spokeswoman for Republicans Overseas UK.

Biden’s campaign team will hold a rival fundraiser in London on Wednesday, hosted by Wintour, the British-born editor-in-chief of US Vogue.

Trump’s event in London follows major fundraising events in Silicon Valley and New York as the former president tries to catch up to Biden’s huge lead in campaign coffers.

Trump, who became the first former president to be convicted of a crime earlier this month, has used much of the money raised by his campaign to pay legal fees related to a number of criminal cases – including two related to his efforts to overturn the 2020 U.S. election.

“Trump is on a roll when it comes to fundraising,” said Bessent, one of the co-moderators of the London event. “He will demonstrate strength, not weakness.”
