Dalgliesh Gets Season 3 on Acorn TV and Channel 5, with Bertie Carvel Making Directorial Debut

EXCLUSIVE: A third season of the crime drama from Acorn TV and Channel 5 Dalgliesh has started filming in Northern Ireland.

Produced by New Pictures (The long shadow) for Acorn and C5 in collaboration with All3Media International, leading actor Bertie Carvel will make his directorial debut in the third edition.

A further three PD James novels will be adapted for the season, each with two-hour episodes, featuring Commander Dalgliesh alongside Margaret Thatcher on the cusp of power in Britain. In the first book Death in holy ordersDalgliesh travels to a remote seminary overlooking a windswept lake, where a gruesomely murdered body has been found. Almost everyone in the seminary has reason to be angry at the victim, and Dalgliesh and DS Tarrant must uncover a series of complicated motives to find her killer.

In this second, Cover her faceDalgliesh investigates a murder at the Essex home of the Mehtas, an incredibly wealthy family with connections to the British government. With the help of local detective Clive Roscoe, Dalgliesh paints a picture of the events in the weeks leading up to the crime, all the while confronting the shroud of secrecy among his guarded suspects.

In the third, Devices and wishes, Dalgliesh is sent on an urgent mission to investigate a terrorist attack against a nuclear power station on the Kent coast. He soon becomes involved in a complex and highly explosive hunt for a serial killer, in which he once again works with his former colleague Kate Miskin, now the acting DCI.

Carlyss Peer and Alistair Brammer both return with guest stars including Anton Lesser (Make an effort), Lloyd Owen (The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power), Claire Goose (Silverpoint), Liz White (The long shadow), Adam James (Mr. Bates versus the Post Office), Richard Lintern (Silent witness), Ellora Torchia (The gold), Parth Thakerar (Gangs of London), Soni Razdan (War) and Josie Walker (Belfast).

Screenwriter and playwright Helen Edmundson (Mr Whicher’s Suspicion, An Inspector Calls, Small Island) returns as head writer and executive producer, with Colette Kane (Temple, Moving On, Department Q) Join as a writer for Death in holy orders and Kam Odedra (Lupin, Hijack, Whitstable Pearl) At Cover her face.

Carvel directs Cover her faceGeoff Sax (We, Endeavor, Victoria) returns to direct Death in holy orders and Roger Goldby (Belgravia: The Next Chapter, Finding Alice, The Durrells) directs Devices and wishes. Leon McGeown Fee (London Kills, Hope Street) will produce the series, with Elaine Pyke, Willow Grylls and Bertie Carvel serving as executive producers for New Pictures. Additional funding comes from Northern Ireland Screen.
