Quick facts about the Mazda CX-30

The 2021 CX-30, first introduced at the Geneva Motor Show in 2019, is a small crossover from Mazda that went on sale in fall 2020. Offering all the comfort, safety, style, refinement and performance Mazda buyers expect, the 2021 CX-30 fits neatly into the space between the CX-3 and CX-5.

Sleek power, elegant structure, well-organized space, comprehensive driver assistance, a responsive driving experience, a variety of features and available all-wheel drive come together in the 2021 Mazda CX-30 at a competitive price. After the complications of a 2020 debut that split the launch across two model years, the 2021 CX-30 has found its footing and moved up in the subcompact crossover class.

KBB Review Highlights

The 2021 CX-30 represents Mazda’s ethos of understated luxury and elegant power. A certain level of sophistication elevates the CX-30 into a class of compact, plastic and sometimes boring vehicles. It outperforms the Honda HR-V, Hyundai Kona and Subaru Crosstrek with premium craftsmanship, a sporty and refined driving experience and excellent resale.

The 2021 Mazda CX-30’s interior is spacious and bright, available in a variety of combinations with raised accents. Depending on the model, buyers can choose between seats made of fabric, vegan leather or supple nappa leather and contact points made of natural wood. Attention to detail is evident in the integrated 8.8-inch infotainment system, easy-to-reach control knobs, easy connectivity and speakers relocated from the roof and dashboard to the door to improve sound quality and the driving experience. Legroom is always at a premium in a compact crossover, and the 2021 CX-30 is no exception, as room for long legs is easiest to find in the front of the cabin.

In keeping with Mazda’s recent offerings, the 2021 CX-30 is aesthetically beautiful. The lines are clean and flowing. The plastic cladding is minimal and the power of the reflective surfaces and glossy paint enhance the design. As you move up from the base model to the Premium model, Mazda adds additional safety, comfort and convenience features such as blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, heads-up display and power seats. Mid-range trims are top-heavy and have few features that differentiate them from the base model.

Following the success of the Mazda3, the 2021 CX-30 is available in seven models with a choice of two engines. Unlike some of its class rivals, the CX-30 is not an either/or concept. Mazda designed it for practicality and thrill, and it does both well.

The more efficient CX-30 uses a 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine with an EPA rating of 25/33/28 city/highway/combined MPG with front-wheel drive (FWD) in Base, Select, Preferred and Premium models. . . All-wheel drive (AWD) is available. A turbocharged engine powers the namesake trim levels, the CX-30 2.5 Turbo, Turbo Premium and Turbo Premium Plus, with an EPA rating of 22/30/25 mpg. Each engine delivers a refined, comfortable and precise drive, but the Turbo range feels sportier and is more fun to drive.

With more than enough power for your daily commute and enough style to make the drive fun, the small crossover is a welcome addition to Mazda’s SUV lineup.
