Comparison Between 2024 Ford Maverick and 2024 Chevrolet Colorado – Kelley Blue Book

Pickup trucks like the compact Ford Maverick and midsize Chevrolet Colorado are great for anyone who wants pickup capability without sacrificing the size, price and fuel economy of a full-size model.

The smallest trucks from their respective manufacturers, the Maverick and the Colorado, have continually impressed us during miles of road testing. The Maverick won our 2023 Compact Truck Best Buy Award. Will the 2024 model retain its crown or will the recently updated Colorado take it?

Let’s see how they compare.

2024 Ford Maverick

2024 Ford Maverick

The 2024 Ford Maverick is based on the same platform as the Ford Escape compact SUV. This design results in a smoother ride and more precise handling than you would expect from a hard-working truck. The truck is available in three trim levels – XL, XLT and Lariat – and prices start at $25,410, including shipping costs.

The only notable change for this model year is that a 250-horsepower 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder is now the base powertrain. Previously, the Maverick’s hybrid 4-cylinder was the entry-level engine. Front-wheel drive (FWD) is standard; All-wheel drive (AWD) is available.

Ford Maverick highlights

Tremor off-road package: The robust Tremor package includes a firmer and higher suspension, re-profiled bumpers for better approach and departure angles when driving off-road, lockable all-wheel drive and underbody skid plates. It also features Trail Control, a feature that only requires the driver to steer the Maverick through rough terrain. The system takes over all accelerator, braking and gear changing processes.

Back-friendly loading area: Because it sits much lower to the ground than the Colorado, loading the bed requires less effort. Ford offers lockable compartments and a 110-volt power outlet in the Maverick’s 4.5-foot bed.

Hybrid is fantastic Fuel consumption: The 162 hp hybrid four-cylinder feels more robust than its horsepower number suggests. The real trick with this engine is fuel economy. It delivers an EPA-reported average of 37 mpg combined in city and highway driving. The Colorado doesn’t come close to this value.

B&O stereo system: Available on the Lariat trim, this 8-speaker Bang & Olufsen audio system adds more audio stimulation to your daily driving routine.

2024 Chevrolet Colorado

The 2024 Chevrolet Colorado starts at $31,095 and is available in six trim levels: WT, LT, Trail Boss, Z71, ZR2 and ZR2 Bison. Standard features on the WT trim include a digital instrument display, an 11.3-inch infotainment touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, two USB ports, automatic high beams and satellite radio.

User-friendly technology: We just pointed out that the Colorado has an 11.3-inch touchscreen and the popular Apple CarPlay and Android Auto wireless features. The precise menus and quick responses make this infotainment system one of our favorites among compact trucks.

Robust ZR2 and ZR2 Bison: The ZR2 and ZR2 Bison (new-for-2024) come with all-wheel drive and off-road equipment such as off-road tires, skid plates, and front and rear locking differentials. The Bison also features a steel front bumper with winch function, Multimatic dampers, 12.2 inches of ground clearance and beadlock wheels.

Safety devices: Chevrolet has made the Colorado safer with this latest generation. Every variant features automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane departure warning, forward collision warning, lane departure warning and rear seat reminder.

TurboMax engine: A 237 hp four-cylinder with a turbocharger is installed in the WT and LT trim levels. A more powerful 310 hp version of the same engine is available for both models – and is standard on the Trail Boss, Z71 and ZR2. The stronger acceleration and greater towing capacity make it worth serious consideration in our opinion.

similarities

These two trucks have more differences than similarities. However, they both have 4-cylinder engines, are only available in crew cab configurations, have the same warranty coverage, and are less bulky in tight spaces than full-size trucks like the Ford F-150 and Chevrolet Silverado.

Diploma

The Ford Maverick strikes us as a compact truck for anyone looking for a more car-like driving experience. A compact SUV-like model might be more accurate since it’s based on the family-friendly Escape platform. The Maverick is extremely maneuverable and amazing in terms of fuel economy. It’s an excellent choice for truck buyers who don’t need the final say in towing and rock-crawling capabilities.

The more traditional Chevy Colorado is the more truck-like of the two. The ZR2 and ZR2 Bison trims are as durable as mountain goats traversing rough terrain. And it’s bigger too. The Chevy is longer, wider and about 10 inches taller than the Ford. It also tows and hauls far more.
