Bruno Fernandes Makes His Intentions for Man Utd’s Future Clear

Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes has made clear his desire to stay at Old Trafford beyond this season if the club reciprocates the feeling.

There has been a lot of speculation about Fernandes’ future in recent weeks, with links to Bayern Munich and the Saudi Pro League emerging in the last few days alone.

But he has always stated that he will be a Manchester United player for as long as he is wanted. After Wednesday night’s 3-2 win over Newcastle United, the captain hinted that the club firmly believes he is still a necessary piece of the puzzle.

“I will stay here until the club wants me and the club wants me to be part of the future. If they don’t want me for any reason, I will leave,” Fernandes said Sky Sports.

With the win over Newcastle, United moved level on points with the Magpies in the Premier League ahead of the final day of the 2023/24 season on Sunday. Thanks to a much better goal difference, Newcastle sit in seventh place – probably good enough for the Europa Conference League – but any slip-up away to Brentford at the weekend would open the door for United to travel to Brighton.

Even if United finish eighth, recording their worst-ever Premier League result, they could still clinch a Europa League place by beating Manchester City in the FA Cup final. Ironically, this would see Newcastle drop out of a European spot, assuming they don’t push Chelsea into sixth place.

“Obviously the work is not done yet. We have one more game in the Premier League and then the biggest game of the season, the FA Cup final,” explained Fernandes.

“It was a tough season. The table shows this and we are all aware of it. The fans were great and stood behind us all season. We all appreciate what they have done for us. We want to do it better and differently.” and them [fans] deserve this.

“They were great for us and we had to do something. We tried it, but the results don’t show that. We worked hard and everyone did their best, this is not enough and we need to do more.”

“There is no such thing as a captain’s performance, it’s a team effort. I’m no different from anyone else just because I wear the armband. I always try my best and we always do our best for the club – no one hides that. “We play for a big club and we have to improve our standards in every game.
