Belgium’s Squad for Euro 2024: Fixtures, Predictions and Best Players

Belgium travels to Euro 2024 this summer in the hope of finally achieving success on the international stage.

The Red Devils secured their place at their third consecutive European Championship with a 3-2 win over Austria in October, marking a successful start to Domenico Tedesco’s tenure as coach.

As they look to reclaim their status as a dominant force in international football, the spotlight is likely to be on Kevin De Bruyne. With his exceptional talent and key role in the Belgian team, the midfielder carries considerable pressure to lead his team to success.

Here is 90 minutes Guide to Belgium at Euro 2024.

Coach Tedesco has announced which Red Devils he will take to Euro 2024. Similar to France, Belgium has put together an impressive 25-man squad, opting against the maximum number of 26 players allowed by UEFA.

Manchester City star Kevin De Bruyne will wear the captain’s armband for his national team this summer, as Eden Hazard is now retired. De Bruyne will be Romelu LukakuBelgium’s all-time leading goalscorer with almost a century of goals.

After winning the La Liga title and the Champions League trophy with Real Madrid in the 2023/24 season, Thibaut Courtois would have been a safe choice as goalkeeper. However, the 32-year-old has not been able to play despite his return to the first team, so Tedesco has to choose between Koen Casteels, Thomas Kaminski or Matz Sels to guard the gate.

Thomas Meunier, Yannick Carrasco, Jan Vertonghen And Axel Witsel will play a crucial role in managing and retaining Premier League stars with their wealth of experience on the international stage Jeremy Documentary, Leandro Trossard And Amadou Onana concentrated.

Belgium is expected to advance to the knockout round without any problems, and will face Slovakia, Romania and Ukraine as opponents in the group stage.

Belgium remained unbeaten in qualifying and are dark horses to win the tournament overall. Although the Golden Generation is firmly behind them, this team still has a wealth of talent.

Having consistently used a back four throughout qualifying and the international break in March, Tedesco is expected to maintain this tactical formation.

Timothy Castagne, Arthur Theate and Jan Vertonghen will play in defence, with one more place still up for grabs. Although he impressed against England, Zeno Debast is likely to start on the bench, with Wout Faes partnering Vertonghen instead.

De Bruyne’s place in midfield is secure and he is likely to play alongside defensive-minded Premier League stars Amadou Onana and Youri Tielemans, allowing De Bruyne to work his magic.

Jeremy Doku and Leandro Trossard are valuable reinforcements on the wings with their speed and skill, giving the Red Devils’ attack dynamism. Up front, Romelu Lukaku is aiming for the Golden Shoe.

Belgium’s possible knockout opponents

The Red Devils are expected to finish first in Group E, while Romania, who have won only one of their 16 matches in the history of the European Championship, are expected to finish last.

In that case, Belgium would face a third-placed team from Groups A, B, C or D. They would then face the winner of Group D or the runner-up of Group F – Turkey, Georgia or Greece, Portugal or the Czech Republic – in the quarter-finals before potentially moving on to a semi-final against England.

The Red Devils’ opponents in Berlin for the cup could then be Germany, Spain or Italy.

Kevin De Bruyne

Kevin De Bruyne will likely be Belgium’s standout player this summer. De Bruyne has been instrumental in Man City’s success in recent years and, despite being sidelined for some time last Premier League season, finished third for most assists.

He is also one of Belgium’s top ten goalscorers of all time and has represented the country in five major tournaments, including the last two European Championships.

Jeremy Documentaryalso from Pep Guardiola’s City, will also delight spectators. The 22-year-old had a pretty strong first season in England’s top flight, recording three goals and eight assists.

Arthur Vermeeren

Johan Bakayoko And Arthur Vermeeren could be in the spotlight this summer if they make the most of their time on the pitch.

Bakayoko, a dynamic 21-year-old winger, has qualities reminiscent of Chelsea legend Eden Hazard. He has already enjoyed success this year, being part of the PSV Eindhoven team that won the Eredivisie title. For Belgium, Bakayoko has scored one goal and provided two assists.

Vermeeren is a midfielder currently playing for Atletico Madrid. After moving from Royal Antwerp to a team led by the fearsome Diego Simeone, the 19-year-old has struggled to get playing time.

Vermeeren has also only played a few minutes in competitive matches for Belgium. However, this limited playing time should inspire him to make a lasting impression every time he steps on the field in the upcoming games in Germany.

While Belgium’s progression from the group stage seems very likely and the team is looking to make amends after a disappointing 2022 World Cup, the path through the knockout rounds presents a completely different challenge.

Despite their attacking strength and individual brilliance, concerns remain about the Red Devils’ defensive stability, which could be tested against stronger opponents in the later stages of the tournament.

Injuries or suspensions of individual players could further exacerbate defensive weaknesses and endanger the cohesion of the defense.

Keeping the pressure from the defense as low as possible will be crucial for Belgium’s success and its ambitions to win the trophy.
