Almeria vs Barcelona: Preview, Predictions and Lineups

Barcelona are back in La Liga on Thursday evening and travel to bottom club Almeria.

The 2023/24 season has been a turbulent season for the Catalans, who endured a miserable title defense and have already given up their crown to Clasico rivals Real Madrid. Therefore, their main goal with three league games remaining is to keep surprise side Girona out of second place.

Barca were beaten by their Catalan rivals for the second time this season in early May, but a 2-0 win over Real Sociedad on Monday night means they move a point clear over Girona having played a game less.

Xavi’s side almost suffered their most embarrassing result of the season in the second leg when Almeria equalized twice at Montjuic in December, but Sergi Roberto’s second-half brace ensured Barca took all three points.

Almeria faced relegation in April and have won just two La Liga games all season – one of which was away at Rayo Vallecano on May 5.

Here is 90 minutes Preview the game.

Largie Ramazani is suspended again for Barcelona’s away game and Almeria are also without injured players Aleksandar Radovanovic and Iddrisu Baba.

Radovanovic is struggling with a thigh injury.

Predicted lineup of Almeria against Barcelona (4-3-3): Maximian; Pubill, Chumi, Gonzalez, Centelles; Robertone, Pena, Vieira; Baptistao, Lozano, Embarba.

Ilkay Gündogan

The quick turnaround after Monday night’s game means we should see some changes to Xavi’s XI at Almeria.

The Spaniard cannot rely on the suspended Ilkay Gündogan; Fermin Lopez is most likely to replace the German international.

Ronald Araujo should also return to the team and replace Inigo Martinez at the heart of the defense. Young Hector Fort could start at left-back.

The guests will have to do without Gavi, Frenkie de Jong and Alejandro Balde.

Predicted lineup of Barcelona against Almeria (4-3-3): Ter Stegen Kounde, Araujo, Cubarsi, Fort; Christensen, Pedri, Lopez; Ferran, Lewandowski, Felix.

Almeria gave Barcelona a scare in the second leg and their recent games suggest they will make a good fist of it on Thursday night. They play without pressure – they’re just not very good.

It’s been another rollercoaster ride for the visitors after Xavi’s U-turn and perhaps even more drama will unfold this round. Anything but a win and questions will be asked of the manager again.

Given the quick turnaround, Xavi is likely to switch for this game, but it’s hard to predict anything other than a Barcelona win.

Prediction: Almeria 1-3 Barcelona
