BMW Motorrad unveils its 2022 R 1250 GS Trophy Competition Bike

Back in January 2021, BMW Motorrad announced that its upcoming 2022 International GS Trophy would take place in the beautiful country of Albania. However, that was 2021 – and January, to begin with. Full details were not yet available, but as we move to the end of June 2022, all the important things will come into focus.

The BMW International GS Trophy will take place in Albania from 4 to 10 September 2022. That is when the teams from each participating country, who are some of the best amateur enduro riders in the world, come together to compete in the teamwork and the camaraderie that make picking up the GS Trophy every two years.

What about the terrain? According to BMW Motorrad’s Christian Pingitzer, who has been the guardian of the GS Trophy since its inception, Albania is the dream of a enduro rider. Riders will have to deal with many well-maintained gravel roads, along with rivers, forests, mountains, and rarely encounter asphalt. In such a ruggedly beautiful place, GS Trophy competitors will have to work together to make the most of the experience.

What about the bikes they will ride? Pingitzer officially unveiled the 2022 BMW R 1250 GS Trophy Competition spec machine – and it seems well-suited for the task at hand. For a start, the cross-spoke wheels are equipped with hard Metzeler Karoo 4 rubber. These should give great off-road performance, in addition to also showing the part.

Good bike protection is also the order of the day, as this is the type of event where the bikes will definitely get a hit. That’s the reason why BMW equips the GS Trophy Competition bikes with a whole range of protection, from headlamp to tail. There is a headlamp protector on the front, as well as some protection for the TFT dashboard.

A full range of engine protection is also fitted snugly in place, including a skid plate and top engine guards. Handguards are also fitted to protect the clutch and brake levers in the event of a bicycle falling. The GS Trophy rally seat has a stainless steel luggage bridge to stand up to the abuse that inevitably rides with serious enduro riding.

Riders will also be equipped with a two-piece BMW adventure pack, the GS Karakum GTX. It is a kit for several seasons, intended to suit hot climates, cold climates, and everything in between due to its multiple layers. Finally, riders will also receive a BMW Adventure Collection tank bag, which can also pull double duty as a tail package.
