Rory McIlroy rips off some LIV golfers for their over-face on intentions

Four-time big winner Rory McIlroy offered some of the harshest criticism yet from PGA Tour players who transitioned to the rival LIV Golf Invitational Series, saying Wednesday that some are “ambiguous” about returning their commitments for the tour.

McIlroy, who spoke to reporters at a press conference ahead of this week’s Travelers Championship in Cromwell, Connecticut, said he was concerned that some players, including Brooks Koepka, were making an over-face after earlier loyalty to the thought had promised.

“But am I surprised? Yes, because of what he said earlier,” McIlroy said. “I think I’m therefore surprised by a lot of these guys – because they say one thing and then they do another … I do not understand that, and I do not know if that is for legal reasons or if they can no – I have no idea. But it’s pretty ambiguous of them to say one thing and then do another. “

When McIlroy was asked if he was referring to Koepka’s remarks from two years ago or a week ago, he said, “All the way through. All the way through, in public and in private, everything.”

Koepka on Tuesday became the last PGA Tour player to participate in the LIV Golf circuit, which is fronted by two-time Open winner Greg Norman. Koepka is expected to attend the first LIV Golf event in the United States in Portland, Oregon next week.

Last week, Koepka, who ranks 19th in the Official World Golf Ranking, criticized reporters for asking him questions about LIV Golf, saying it was throwing a “black cloud” over the US Open.

“I’m here at the US Open,” Koepka said. “I’m ready to play the US Open, and I think it’s kind of fun too, you all threw this black cloud over the US Open. It’s one of my favorite events. I do not know why you keep doing How more legs you give [LIV Golf]the more you talk about it. “
