Everton boss Lampard fined for criticizing referee in Liverpool clash

Everton manager Frank Lampard has been fined £ 30,000 ($ 37,779.00) for criticizing the referee during his side’s defeat to Liverpool in last month’s Merseyside derby, the Football Association (FA) said on Tuesday.

Referee Stuart Attwell gave no penalty for a challenge to Everton’s Anthony Gordon and Lampard said after his side lost 2-0 that the spot would have been given if the challenge had been made on a Liverpool player.

Earlier this month, the FA accused Lampard of unfair behavior for attacking the integrity of referees.

The 43-year-old denies the charge and is now fined “for violating FA Rule E3 in connection with media commentary proved during a personal hearing,” the FA said in a statement.

“The manager of Everton FC … has denied any wrongdoing because they implied bias and / or the integrity of the referee of the match – or referees in general – and / or the game in bring credit in violation of FA Rule E3.1, “the FA added.

Lampard took over at Goodison Park in January with the club soaring above the Premier League relegation zone. Everton secured their top flight status in the penultimate game of the season and finished 16th, four points above the bottom three.
