The criminal branch, which is investigating the collusion case against Malayalam actor Dileep and four others, accused the actor of trying to influence some of the witnesses while seeking his anticipatory bail on Tuesday.
The investigation team moved the court and stated that giving bail to the actor will affect the ongoing investigation. It also said that trial for freedom was necessary in the case because he (the actor) had violated the bail rules established by the court.
Dileep was granted bail in the first week of February by the Supreme Court (HC) on the grounds that he will not influence witnesses and cooperate fully with the ongoing investigation. At the time, the HC had indicated that the investigative team could approach the court if it found that the defendant violated the bail terms.
As the trial in the case of 2017 attack of actors was about to end in January 2022, a new case came after a revelation by Malayalam director Balachandra Kumar. He told police he met the main accused Pular Suni in Dileep’s residence in 2016, when he went there to discuss a new project.
The director had also claimed that the latter had a video clip of the attack and once invited him to watch it. He also claimed he had a conversation at Dileep’s house, where he heard about a conspiracy to eliminate officials investigating the case.
Shortly after the new revelation last December, the prosecution moved the court for a new investigation and the court asked it to file charges. Dileep, his brother, brother-in-law and two assistants were charged with conspiracy, destruction of evidence and influencing witnesses in a criminal case. In March, the Supreme Court rejected Dileep’s plea to cancel the new case.
The case of attacking actors took place in 2017 when a leading female actor was abducted and attacked in a moving car in Kochi. Dileep is the seventh accused in the first case. The new case came up when the lawsuit in the first case was about to close.
In another development, the crime department rejected Dileep’s wife Kavya Madhavan’s request to interrogate her at her home instead of the Aluva police club. “She can not draw up conditions for the research agencies. She is delaying the investigation with these unnecessary terms and conditions,” an official said of the development.
