Mayor Balkar Sandhu has instructed Municipal Commissioner Pardeep Sabharwal to register an FIR against forest department officials for demolishing the concrete structures around trees at Sidhwan Canal Waterfront.
Citing National Green Tribunal (NGT) orders, the forest department had demolished concrete seating areas, bike and walking paths established within 1-meter radius of the trees on April 6 MC and it had caused loss worthy of 25 to 30 lakhs. District Forest Officer (DFO) Harbhajan Singh said the MC never received a certificate without objection from the Department of Waterfront Construction. He further stated that the action was taken in accordance with NGT instructions. Despite several attempts, MC Commissioner Pardeep Sabharwal was not available for comment. Ludhiana West MLA Gurpreet Gogi is expected to hold a meeting with MC and Forest Department officials in this regard on Wednesday.

Police in Jammu and Kashmir claimed on Tuesday that they had thwarted Lashkar’s plan to launch an attack in northern Kashmir by arresting three hybrid militants in Sopore. Illegal immigrants expelled from the land of the railways in Jammu
The railways on Tuesday expelled illegal immigrants who were encroaching their land at tracks in Jammu’s Trikuta Nagar, officials said. Railways SSP Mohammad Arif Reshu said no force was used and the intruders left the land of the railways on their own. “They were told it was not safe to live near the tracks and they also understood the dangers and came free on their own,” he added.

HP High Court gives notice on regularization of illegal structures
The Himachal Pradesh High Court, in a case concerning regularization of illegal structures by the state government, has issued notices to the Secretary General; additional secretary, town and country planning; director, department of town and country planning; and the city planner.
