In a shocking incident, six criminals abducted a woman in her Kia Sonet car after beating her husband and father-in-law and driving through the city for more than two hours on Monday night.
They later dropped off at the Durga Temple, near the Jagraon Bridge, after robbing their jewelery, Apple smartwatch and mobile phone. The suspect would have beaten her as well.
The car was found abandoned Tuesday afternoon at a site in Ramgarh.
The father-in-law of the woman, who is the plaintiff in the case, said the family attended a singing ceremony Monday night at a restaurant in Upkar Nagar. After a while, his son and daughter-in-law left him at home and planned to return to the function room. Then he reminded him that he had left his scooter on the spot and his son asked him to take it with him so he could bring the scooter home.
“When we reached the restaurant, six men on three motorcycles got in our way. When my son got out of the car to check what the problem was, the men opened fire on him with sharp weapons. The “Criminals then got into the car and drove away, even though my daughter-in-law and I were still inside. When I started screaming for help, the suspect pushed me out of the car and drove with my daughter-in-law,” the complainant said. added that he informed the police immediately. At 2.30am when the suspect dropped his daughter-in-law at a temple, she borrowed a phone call from a passerby and informed the family of her location after which the police rescued her.
Sub-inspector Kulbir Singh, station house officer of Division 8, said the accused were taken prisoner on closed-circuit television cameras in the area and that police are trying to determine their identity.
The incident raised questions about the reaction time of the police, as the car could not track for several hours, even if the family had informed them immediately after the incident.
