Average speed of cars in city 40 km / h: Study | Ahmedabad News

Ahmedabad: No matter how many extra lanes Ahmedabad added to its roads, but the average speed of an Amdavadi shuttle will hover between 36 km / h and 43 km / h. This is the finding of a Central Road Research Institute (CRRI) study, which was recently submitted to the Gujarat High Court. The study was submitted as part of the Ahmedabad city mobility plan.
The study claimed that the average speed of cars was found on almost all 37 arterial roads or highways of the city at a speed of 40 km / h. That of autorickshaws and trucks was 32 km / h, two-wheelers moving faster at 47 km / h, while the average speed of light commercial cars was faster than cars at 43 km / h. Another interesting aspect of Ahmedabad traffic was that it consisted of drivers aged between 25 and 35 years and making up 35.9% of the total commuters on city roads. Then there are 19% commuters who fell in the age group of 35 years to 45 years.
Also, the average journey of Amdavadis has increased from 5.6 km to 6.99 km between 2012 and December 2021. “The CRRI report clearly shows how Amdavadis now spends more time on city roads with the average travel lengths increasing and thus leading to more traffic on city roads, “said a senior official of Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC). The official added that 73% of all car journeys on Ahmedabad roads are daily journeys.
The study also highlights the fact that most arterial roads in Ahmedabad are also swollen due to 1.42 lakh cars entering the city from peripheral areas. An analysis by CRRI has found that the maximum ‘external to external traffic movement’ on the outskirts of the city is recorded on NH228 (Aslali) which contributes to 12.36% of the traffic, followed by traffic at Ujala Circle which constitute 9.73% of the total. traffic.
“Nearly 80 per cent of total car journeys carried out on all the outer peripheral roads of the city are all within a distance of 50 km. This shows how outlying areas merge within the metropolitan boundaries of Ahmedabad,” the official added.
