Rockets fired, cars and property damaged and riot police brought in to help with ‘large crowds’ involved in ‘disruption’ of Caia Park

Rockets were fired at officers, cars and property were damaged and police dressed in riot gear were called to Caia Park after a large crowd was involved in a “disturbance”. It broke out last night on Wynnstay Avenue.

At around 11.40pm, North Wales police confirmed that they were dealing with “a continuing incident in the Caia Park area of ​​Wrexham.” The police helicopter was also seen flying.

What caused the disturbance, which “escalated rapidly”, is currently unknown, but the force confirmed that an investigation is underway and a call for information has also been made.

A police union said: “Officers were called last night to deal with a large number of people causing a disturbance in Wynnstay Avenue, Wrexham. Additional officers in protective clothing were called after a number of rockets were fired.”

Superintendent Owain Llewellyn added: “Our priority was to ensure the safety of people in the area and there were at one time a large number of officers while we worked to calm the situation which was rapidly escalating. Rockets were fired at officers, although fortunately no one was injured, but damage was caused to cars and property.

“I appreciate that our presence on this scale and in protective clothing will have caused local concern and thank people for their patience while we have worked to resolve the situation. Officers will remain in the area overnight while our investigations continue and I would appeal to anyone with information to contact us at 101. “
