A back injury to Deepak Chahar has paid off except for the bowling all-rounder hoping to play in the ongoing IPL 2022, which added to the misery of the Chennai Super Kings’ faltering campaign.
After entering the tournament without Chahar, their striker, the defending champions have lost all four of their matches in the 10-team competition and are placed at the bottom of the table.
While CSK have always claimed that their Buying 14 crore would be fit for the second week of April, the seriousness of the tears was such that there was “no chance of his availability” in the tournament.
According to sources, the bowler from India and CSK suffered the back injury during his rehab at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru.
Chahar has been with the NCA for more than a month now, recovering from the quadriceps fracture he picked during India’s T20I series against the West Indies in February.
Initially, it was believed that Chahar would miss a large part of the IPL, but his rapid recovery kept CSK optimistic about the end of April.
The bowling all-rounder suffered a quadriceps injury during the third T20I against the West Indies in February, and ran off the field after failing to complete his spell.
The 29-year-old, who was bought for 14 crore in the mega auction, went through and missed the next series against Sri Lanka. Chahar, who is also good at playing the big shots, played a key role in the team’s success last year.
