British star Thandiwe Newton has criticized Academy Award-winning actor Sean Penn for his recent remarks that American men are being “wildly feminized”. pennwho won Oscar trophies for The Milk and Mystic River, had raised his eyebrows late last month after saying that masculinity is not always toxic.
Newton posted a retort on social media, calling the 61-year-old actor a “jibbering fool”.
”@SeanPenn Dude what are you saying? Like for REAL? You’re a jibbering fool. you used to be sexy, but now you’re just tragic, “she wrote next to a link to an article on Penn’s comments.” For your DAUGHTER !? That poor little myth. Thank God her mother is so stupid. “Please stop destroying the luster of #LicoricePizza with this nonsense,” she added.
Penn first made the remarks in an interview with an American newspaper.
“I’m in the club that believes men have become wildly feminized in American culture. I do not think being a brute or having insensitivity or disrespect for women is anything to do with masculinity, or ever “But I do not think that (to be honest with women), we should become them,” he said.
Later, in another interview with the British publication The Independent, the actor was asked to clarify his remarks.
“I think men, in my opinion, have become quite feminized. I have these very strong women in my life who do not take masculinity as a sign of oppression for them. There are many cowardly genes, I think, that it’s leading people to surrender their jeans and put on a skirt, “he said.
At the time, he was promoting his film Flag Day alongside his daughter, Dylan Penn.
The Independent in its article stated that Penn’s statement about men becoming “very feminized”, his daughter “quietly, dying in space”.
