Bombay HC comes to rescue girls forced to row boats to reach school every day | Mumbai news

The Department Bank of Justice Prasanna Varale and Anil Kilor took note suo motu of a news report highlighting the situation of girls in the village of Khirvandi in Javali taluka of the Satara district.

Mumbai: Moved by the plight of schoolgirls from a Satara village who have to row boats in Koyna Dam every day to reach school, the High Court of Bombay has instructed the state government to take action and provide all possible assistance to make their journey more enjoyable.

The Department Bank of Justice Prasanna Varale and Anil Kilor took note suo motu of a news report highlighting the situation of girls in the village of Khirvandi in Javali taluka of the Satara district.

“The news refers to the daily routine of girls during which they have to take a boat trip to reach the school, which starts at 09.00. It also refers to the shocking reality that a small boat is being driven by the girls’ students themselves, “the bank said in a news release.

Furthermore, it pointed out that in addition to crossing the Koyna Dam, the students had to walk four kilometers through dense forest inhabited by wild animals such as tigers and bears to get to school.

The news report also stated that although most schools in the state were closed due to lockdown, the children from the village of Khirvandi continued to make the daily journey through the pandemic.

In light of these revelations, the bank observed, “We have lacked words to express the suffering and fate of students in general and girls in particular. Seeing the situation reflected in the news becomes, we say that on the one hand there are the setbacks that the girls get, and on the other hand there is the courage, will and strong determination of these students to pursue an academic career.

The bank further said that the state government could achieve the goal of “Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao” by providing safe passage and a friendly atmosphere and environment for girls by taking all measures to help the children in need.

Releasing the courage and willpower of the girls, the bank recalled the words of a Marathi poem “Amhi Savitrichya Leki” (We are daughters of Savitribai Phule).
