A 28-year-old motorcyclist was killed Tuesday morning and two car drivers were injured in an accident at a bad spot near the village of Pimpal Ghar in Kalyan.

In the accident, one of the two car rickshaws tumbled into a large pothole on the road and spun turtle while another car rickshaw rammed into the first and the motorcyclist rammed into the two cars, suffering head injuries.

The accident happened Tuesday at 4 p.m. The Kalyan-Kongaon police have held the supervisor responsible for maintaining the road under IPC Section 304 A. However, he has not yet been arrested.

The deceased, identified as Abdul Shaikh, worked in a cake shop and is a resident of Dream Land building in Congo. He was the only member of a family of seven, including three children.

He went home for work daily at 3:30 p.m. The accident happened minutes after he was home. Local residents claimed the entire patch of road was a death knell for motorists.

Sunil Dalvi, a Congolese social worker, said: “The work and extension of road repairs have been pending for the last three and a half years. The road connects Katai Naka with Ranjnoli Naka. The incident happened towards Bhiwandi Road and “The condition of the road is the worst since the expansion work started. There are hardly any street lights on the road and therefore a lot of accidents happen through holes at night.”

G Pingle, senior police inspector, Kongaon Police, said, “We have booked the supervisor of the office responsible for the maintenance of the road. The accident happened early in the morning while the deceased was on his bike to his office and was sitting without a helmet. He died while suffering from serious injuries, and the two government officials were also injured and are being treated at a Bhiwandi hospital.
